There's no progress without support

Although I am -- and from all of the mail I have received, you are -- very pleased with the progress of the DCAA. The reunion and awards dinner went well, the newsletter continues to generate interest and the fundraising effort has gotten off to a good start.

Funny thing, progress. It is not a thing, it does not exist by itself. It is a process, a happening. And, well, if nothing's happening, there's no longer any progress.

I'm hoping that our progress will not disappear.

There still is competition for the Cardinal. The equipment is more than five years old. The office is still on UW property. The journalism school is still cutting back classes and disciplines.

There is still work to do.

I can understand if you are busy. Well, if you worked at the Cardinal, you did well enough for yourself that you would always be busy. As the adage goes, if you want something done, ask a busy person. Well, I am asking.

Quite honestly, the DCAA is not a "black box." There are a dedicated group of people serving as the person behind the wizard. More are needed. We need your support.

Call, e-mail or write our office and let us know how you want to be involved. We need mentors, assistance with our job and internship program and pledges to put the finishing touches on our memorial to Miriam Ottenberg.
