Anthony Shadid wins for International Reporting:
For a distinguished example of reporting on international affairs, in print or online or both, Ten thousand dollars ($10,000).
Awarded to Anthony Shadid of The Washington Post for his rich, beautifully written series on Iraq as the United States departs and its people and leaders struggle to deal with the legacy of war and to shape the nation’s future.
Shadid served as the Cardinal's campus editor in 1989.

Every year the Daily Cardinal Alumni Association Board of Directors and the Daily Cardinal Media Corporation Board of Directors meet in Madison to discuss joint goals for their organizations, talk with the staff about their plans for the coming year, and most importantly, socialize with the current generation of Cardinal staff.
