Cardinal's Shadid Nominated for Book Award
NEW YORK -- Nominees for the 26th annual Los Angeles Times Book Prizes were announced Thursday, and the newspaper's Robert Kirsch Award went to Joan Didion. The nominees in nine categories were announced at the National Arts Club in Manhattan. The winners will be named April 28 in a ceremony at UCLA.

In current interest, the nominees are "Courtroom 302: A Year Behind the Scenes in an American Criminal Courthouse" by Steve Bogira (Knopf), "Conspiracy of Fools: A True Story" by Kurt Eichenwald (Broadway Books), "The Lost Painting: The Quest for a Caravaggio Masterpiece" by Jonathan Harr (Random House),"Night Draws Near: Iraq's People in the Shadow of America's War" by Anthony Shadid (Henry Holt) and "Still Looking: Essays on American Art" by John Updike (Knopf).
Cardinal Alumnus Wins Second Pulitzer Prize
Walt Bogdanich honored for national reporting.
The New York Times won in the national reporting category for a series of articles by Walt Bogdanich about fatal accidents at railway crossings. It was the second Pulitzer for Mr. Bogdanich, who won in 1988 for articles he wrote for The Wall Street Journal.
Shadid Wins 2004 Pulitzer for International Reporting
Anthony Shadid (Campus Editor, 1988-89) of The Washington Post was awarded the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting.
This award was given for his extraordinary ability to capture, at personal peril, the voices and emotions of Iraqis as their country was invaded, their leader toppled and their way of life upended.
This Pulitzer Prize is awarded for a distinguished example of reporting on international affairs, including United Nations correspondence.
