Shadid Wins 2004 Pulitzer for International Reporting

Anthony Shadid (Campus Editor, 1988-89) of The Washington Post was awarded the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting.

This award was given for his extraordinary ability to capture, at personal peril, the voices and emotions of Iraqis as their country was invaded, their leader toppled and their way of life upended.

This Pulitzer Prize is awarded for a distinguished example of reporting on international affairs, including United Nations correspondence.

Bergman Wins 2004 Pulitzer for Public Service

Lowell Bergman was awarded the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service Reporting.

His work with David Barstow for The New York Times relentlessly examined death and injury among American workers and exposed employers who break basic safety rules.

This Pulitzer Prize is awarded for a distinguished example of meritorious public service by a newspaper through the use of its journalistic resources which, as well as reporting, may include editorials, cartoons, photographs and an on-line presentation.

Goldman Wins 2004 Pulitzer for National Reporting

Abigail Goldman (Campus Editor, 1989-90) was awarded the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting.

As part of the Los Angeles Times Staff, she wrote part of its engrossing examination of the tactics that have made Wal-Mart the largest company in the world with cascading effects across American towns and developing countries.

This Pulitzer Prize is awarded for a distinguished example of reporting on national affairs.
